Brittanica Encyclopedia
Site of the famous encyclopedia. Provides thousands of quick descriptions of important sociological issues, theories, and theorists. Bookmark this one!

Statistics Canada
The federal service that generates statistics about Canadian society and industries.

Comptons Encylopedia
A substantial encyclopedia. Useful, but not as intelligently constructed as Brittanica.

Encarta
Microsoft’s stab at the encyclopedia market. Easy to navigate, but the information is pitched at a younger and less educated audience.

Funk and Wagnalls
Dictionary and Thesaurus. Well organized and simple.

These questions and answers were developed by the Legal Studies Program, University of Alberta. The contents are intended as general legal information only and should not form the basis for legal advice of any kind.

Legal Information Institute
Well recognized as a leader in the provision of online legal materials, this site offers access to an extensive collection of U.S. legal resources, in particular LII's collection of recent and historic Supreme Court decisions, its hypertext versions of the full U.S. Code, U.S. Constitution, Code of Federal Regulations, Federal Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, recent opinions of the New York Court of Appeals and commentary on them from the liibulletin-ny, the American Legal Ethics Library. In addition, it includes a fairly good selection of foreign and international legal materials.

Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia
This is the legal link page for the continuing legal education society of BC. The links are organized into such areas as business and finance, practice areas, practice tools (contains software and forms), news and media, reference and so on. There’s an on-site ability to search the links. Lot of legal content including case law and statutes. Also has tribunal decisions.

Alberta Law Reform Commission
Conducts and directs research into law and the administration of justice. Considers matters of law reform with a view to proposing to the appropriate authority, the means by which the law may be made more useful and effective. Promotes law research and reform.

Law Commission of Canada
The Law Commission of Canada is an independent federal law reform agency that advises Parliament on how to improve and modernize Canada’s laws.

Uniform Law Conference of Canada
The Uniform Law Conference of Canada is devoted to harmonizing the Canadian statute law where harmony is beneficial. It does so by preparing uniform statutes that it recommends for enactment by the provinces and territories and sometimes by the federal government as well. It also does so by adopting uniform statutes dealing with the choice of law. On occasion it promotes particular provisions for statutes or publishes guides to uniform legal procedure. In criminal matters it usually adopts proposals for changes or additions to the Criminal Code and other federal legislation.

Can sign up here for personalized e-mail alerts on info you are interested in. Can select news from Europe, US and Asia. One can also sign for subscription on either the on-line version or the paper version. You can get free stock quotes.

Canada One
There’s an on-site magazine, a Canadian business directory, over 7000 articles and a suite of free business tools. Has a lot of articles on starting or expanding into electronic commerce. Has information on hiring online. There’s also a PR Workshop. Also has info on upcoming business-related events.

Profit Magazine
This site provides links to business info on the Internet, has a business newsletter which gives business tips and strategies, and has a link to Profit magazine. They have info in their magazine about hiring procedures and about other businesses and their strategies etc. Also has archives of old magazines. The links are very helpful and is great resource . The sites are also rated!

Entrepreneurial Edge
There’s a quick search function on a number of topics: finance, human resources, leadership/management, legal issues, marketing/sales, operations management, and technology. Also has the ability to do a keyword search. There’s a resource section which includes tutorials, a bookstore, electronic documents, researched Internet sites, and an e-mail subscription newsletter. There’s also a threaded discussion group. The links on this site are analyzed and therefore very useful. Info on licensing, family business, patents, trademarks and copyrights etc.

Canada Careers
This site features the latest in career resources and human resources on the Internet. Can look for jobs by position, employer or through a keyword search.

GD Sourcing Research and Retrieval
Gives access to Canadian statistics by industry, sector, subject heading and/or keyword. There’s also a comprehensive access to detailed Canadian statistics with a query function. Also contains info to Canadian Internet data. They also have great research help tips. There’s a free business researcher newsletter. There’s some info for small businesses. The site has a search function.

Statistics Canada
Statistics Canada is the country's national statistical agency, with programs organized into three broad subject matter areas: demographic and social, socio-economic and economic. Under the Statistics Act, Statistics Canada is required to collect, compile, analyze, abstract and publish statistical information on virtually every aspect of the nation's society and economy.

CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) World Factbook
Yes, that CIA. Basic intelligence provides the fundamental and factual reference material on a country or issue. Current intelligence reports on new developments. Estimative intelligence judges probable outcomes. The three are mutually supportive: basic intelligence is the foundation on which the other two are constructed; current intelligence continually updates the inventory of knowledge; and estimative intelligence revises overall interpretations of country and issue prospects for guidance of basic and current intelligence. The World Factbook, is an example of the three types of finished intelligence.

Canadian Chamber of Commerce
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is the national leader in public policy advocacy on business issues. The goal is to foster a strong, competitive economic environment that benefits Canada and all Canadians.

Canadian Council for International Business
Among Canadian business organizations, the Canadian Council for International Business leads in influencing international policy development as Canada’s business channel to two key world bodies, the ICC and BIAC. The International Chamber of Commerce promotes global trade, investment, open markets and free capital flows. It consults with the United Nations (UN) on key business-related issues and is a conduit between global business and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Canadian Lawyer Index
It is possible to order do-it-yourself legal kits from this site. There’s a lawyer directory, and the ability to look for lawyers. There are tips for hiring a lawyer. There are links to the various Canadian law societies as well as links to the ombudsman and human rights officers across Canada. They have a list of related services such as investigation services, electronic legal research, trustees in bankruptcy, etc. There’s also the ability to file complaints about lawyers and judges. There’s also a direct link to MPs, etc. A legal site with explanations on hiring a lawyer, etc.
