Compulsory licensing of Pharmaceuticals This site discusses some of the concerns being expressed currently about the drug ciprofloxacin which is used in the treatment of anthrax. Public and government concern over the availability of a sufficient supply of this drug has arisen due to the anthrax threat in the United States following the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington. The deaths of several Americans from inhalation anthrax has led to a heavy demand for ciprofloxacin which the patent holder may or may not be able to meet.
